Class Announcements ![]() Khepera Suns Final Results 09-10Congrats to the Khepera Suns for coming in third place in the Southeastern Regional Charter League! Last year the Suns were in last place but with hard work they have turned their basketball program around. The Suns overcame many challenges during the regular season such as injuries and the transfer of key players. But the team used Ujima to finish the season with a record setting 6 wins, and for the first time in the Suns history they clinched a playoff spot. The Khepera Suns entered the playoffs as the 5th seed and the underdog against a seasoned Mariana Bracetti team who had been favored to win the championship. In a shocking upset the Khepera Suns won the game 35 to 25. The game was tied with two minutes but a big 3 pointer by Luis Martinez along with a few baskets from Gregory Brown catapulted the Suns to their first playoff win in history. Luis Martinez finished with an amazing 18 point performance and Gregory Brown finished with 9 points. The upset win was shocking to the outside community but it was not shocking to those affiliated with the program. Over the past 3 years the team has played in over 20 games per year. Furthermore, most of the players play for Brother Marvin’s Mature Cradle Flames AAU team. In the next round of the playoff the Suns came up short against a tall Hardy Williams team and finished the season with the third place trophy. Since the team started in 2007 they have worked hard to develop young players so that one day those players would develop the program into a formidable opponent. Spectators who watched the game praised the team for playing the right way. The suns used this momentum to earn a team record 4 wins in the public league. We are so thankful for our Zulu seniors who will be graduating this year. We are thankful for Luis Martinez (captain) who became the first player in Khepera Suns history to be come a public league all star. We are also thankful for Tajee Carroll (captain), Drew Jones and Damir Williams who represented our program very well. The younger Suns are eager to carry on this energy into next season. Special thanks to our Assistant Coach Brother Ronald Wade and the Team Dad Brother Damone Jones who volunteered their services at every game. Give thanks to Baba Isaac for his leadership and hard work with the team. Give thanks to Brother Atiba for his hard work an Assistant Coach as well as Bro. Dean, Sister Yasmeen, Bro. It was a stunning upset when the parents beat the the staff by four points at Simon last year. However, the staff worked out this past summer and are looking to avenge that lost. We are asking the participants to give a small donation to benefit the Khepera Suns Basketball Program. Payments can be received by Coach Marvin at Khepera Charter School.
